tell ya what it means to me

Well, it has been a long time since I have posted…
Today, I want to talk about Face Culture. This is an interesting phenomena that I have only recently started to understand.

Why is this so important?

For those who have always had enough money, this is a very curious thing that makes no sense whatsoever.

Remember the story of the Chinese business man who made toys for a US toy company? He used a cheaper leaded paint instead of the expensive paints the company paid him to use. When the US company discovered this, they were understandably upset. The business took his life because of this incident.

Why?

One day, riding my bike in the US, I passed a group of guys working on a car. One person had left the drivers side door wide open. I call back and said he should shut the car door. The young man was mad at me thinking I was somehow insulting him. My intentions were totally to try to help him- not insult him.

Why?

I had to ask my students to tell me why Face Culture is so important.

When all you have is the respect of others, then the only thing that makes you valuable to them is respect.

Face Culture is so important because they are looking for respect from a certain group of people. The importance of respect doesn’t mean that they want respect from everyone; just from the right people. People they respect. People they want to be like.

Face Culture is about being able to respect the people you want to respect and receiving respect from those same people.
And this makes a world of sense to me because we all want respect and honor from people. And we don’t always want respect from everyone- just the people we think are worthy of respect.
Are you one of those who wants to be just like Mr. and Mrs. Jones? Do you want to have a car just as nice as they have? What about the biggest big screen tv? See, Face Culture isn’t as different from keeping up with the Joneses…

What I am striving to do (and I hope you will strive for this as well), is to live my life in such a manner that even if someone doesn’t like what I believe in, they can respect the authenticity of my beliefs. They can have respect for why I believe it.

The So Called “War on Women”

In the last several months, I have heard Democrats roaring about how Republicans are waging this massive war on women. As if somehow conservative views are dangerous to women (but that is for a different post).
First of all, I would like to point out a real war on women. Child prostitution. Child prostitution is a real event that happens far more often than anyone wants to believe. I currently live in SE Asia- where prostitution is common and widely accepted.

Child prostitution is a major problem because these young girls grow up not understanding any way of life other than coercion.
For example, Jane is a 6-year-old girl. Her stepfather has some of his ‘friends’. He might also ask Jane to call them her ‘uncles’. These men enjoy holding Jane on her lap and, eventually (when she is old enough), start to use her in more sexual ways.
Maybe Jane has a boyfriend who makes her have sex with his ‘friends’.

These women don’t understand any other life- but yet, they cannot stand to live this way because they feel like worthless people. Perhaps the only way out of the life is to find other women to take their place (which is sad, but I can fully understand why they might do it).

So, when Dems rail on about how women have it rough because they “need to stay at home” or “get paid less in the workforce”, I am disgusted because so many women have it much worse than a difference in pay (which actually doesn’t exist because women tend to choose careers that pay less for both men and women).

Many women are trapped in this lifestyle. We need to change our society to get them out of it.

So until women are no longer used as sex-slaves, let’s redefine the war on women to how it should be defined…

Ask More Questions

Long time, no post… (and sorry, I re-posted because I forgot to add tags)

So it has been a while since I last posted here. Sorry about that. I have been trying to figure out what I could talk about. There are many things I could talk about, but I am trying to keep this focused.

So, let’s move onto a topic that I find lacking in most young people today. Note, I don’t mean young people in America, I mean young people everywhere. Since I lived in the USA for most of my life and now teach in one of the largest countries in the world, I believe I am justified by making such a generalization.

Many young people in the world today do not understand how to think. They are taught to believe the teachers, the professors, the scholars. If someone has studied psychology, then surely that person is qualified to tell me why I behave the way I do, doesn’t it? Not necessarily. Many professors make mistakes. Many psychologists make mistakes as well. A lot of people make mistakes every day.

Now, what does it mean to think? The process of thinking requires that you consider what the person is saying and whether or not what they say is beneficial or not.

Thinking means that you consider how your actions will affect your future life. For me, I need to learn Chinese. I live in China. Plus, if I am fluent in Chinese, it will give me an edge in getting a job in America (should I return with my wife). But I don’t like studying Chinese. It is hard to study something that requires memorization and practice. So, I need to change my mindset and focus on what is best.

Thinking means that you look at why you should and should not do something. Yes. I said look at why you should AND should not do something. Why should I make a new light bulb that way? What if I build it this way? And this third way?

Thinking is the skill that leads to comprehension of proper actions and proper beliefs. I don’t think any feminist who truly understands what I mean when I say “my wife must respect me no matter what just as I must love my wife no matter what” will have any issues with it. I say this because I see how loving my wife unconditionally makes her so much more beautiful and confident. And I see how her respecting me makes me more confident (and probably handsome as well, but I don’t know about that one). And remember, I am required to treat my wife a certain way just as she is required to treat me a certain way, so it isn’t just patriarchal of me, it is responding to who I am as a man and who she is as a woman.

So, lets go to more concrete examples:

No one is being taught to ask those who claim to know the truth: “How do you know that it is true?” What research have you done or read about that proves your stance? No one asks the politician: “How can I trust you?” “How do I know you are being honest with me?

We MUST ask these questions. We must become a society of inquisitors. This is why: The United States of America is 17 TRILLION dollars in debt.

17 trillion.

Look at that number again. If you purchased a house for 17 trillion, how long would it take you to pay it off? If you had a 30 year loan, you would need to pay more that 83 billion per month to pay it off. More perspective: Bill Gates’ net worth (that is, ALL of his money) wouldn’t even pay one months payment.

The reason why I bring up the US Debt amount is because no one seems to be doing anything about changing our current path. We are in serious danger of losing our country because nobody cares about the debt.

We squabble (and it is good that we do) about our rights: Gay rights, the rights of Hobby Lobby, the rights of …, but are we up in arms over illegal immigration (many people are, actually)? Are we up in arms over Congress making dangerous changes to the way they conduct business? Are we up in arms over how P. Bush and current P Obama are increasing the powers of the Executive office?

Sorry. I will stop being political now (although, that is fairly apolitical).

When was the last time you sat down and thought through what you believe?

And when I say believe, I don’t just mean Christian or Atheist or Buddhist, etc. I am referring to anything and everything.

I routinely examine my thought processes for flaws and try to improve them. Most recently, it is my own apathy. That is to say, I am focusing on my apathy towards the fact that I am not always a serious learner (unless I REALLY want to study it). I can change that and I am working on it now.

I have many ideas I want to build (inventions) that I have been thinking about for years. Going over them again and again to try to figure out how to best implement those ideas.

I have considered my faith as a Christian. And I have studied “World Religions”- in part, at least! I took a semester in college of religion and I saw how they handled Christianity and felt it wasn’t improper and then saw how they treated the other religions. It seemed fairly unbiased to me.

Anyway, I have thought about and studied and learned enough to know that Christianity is true. I really enjoy watching videos on science and (mostly) astronomy. What I see is how the observable evidence proves Christianity (aside from redshift, but that is a different matter altogether). I see how unlikely it is that we evolved at all.

I can see the proof in the Chinese language as well. Look it up, you will see a lot of proof for it. I believe this is true because I see how words come together in the language and how the combination of those words justifies the idea that the ideas in Genesis chapters 1-11 are represented in the Chinese language (tower has: dirt, grass, people, 1 and language, to share is: knife, 8, joy, or cut into 8s, the joy). I could go on and on.

I could present more evidence for why I believe in Jesus Christ, but I will refrain because of space and potential interest by you, the reader.

What I want you to start doing is questioning your beliefs. I don’t want you to question your beliefs because I think your wrong, I want you to do this to understand why your beliefs are correct. Find concrete evidence as to why you ought to believe what you believe. And if you find out that your beliefs are not correct, then that is good as well.

And when you question your beliefs, look at what the other side has to say about the matter. What do non-feminists believe? What do pro-choice people believe? Why is Christianity better than Buddhism? (yes, I know, a highly biased question there).

Question everything I have written here!!! Seriously, you can search and find evidence to support everything I have written.

for the poor, against immigration

As a Christian, I look to the past to decide what our future America should look like. So when I look to how we handled immigration years ago, I wonder “how could we improve upon that”? Now, I think giving everyone who crosses our borders a temporary tax-payer ID number would be perfect. This would eliminate the need for immigration visas, the ‘illegal immigration’ status, and help us track each person who crosses our borders (but I would limit voting rights to citizens only).

Even so, I never considered the other problems that come with mass immigration.

The debate rages between Democrats and Republicans as to how to reform immigration. But I don’t hear either side discussing how in the world we will improve the circumstances for the hundreds of thousands of low-income Blacks, Hispanics, other minorities and even l-i White people…

I think this is the best counter-argument for being anti-immigration. Let’s employ the masses who are already in America. Let’s get THOSE people a job before we start worrying about the people who immigrated from other countries.

Granted, the kids who walked the 500 miles (and walked 500 more) to fall down at our door suffered to get to the USA. But what about THEIR future? Those kids probably don’t speak English, probably don’t have much of an education, are lacking many of the basics that will hinder them for the rest of their lives. I would love to help them out, but let’s start at home, shall we?

Also, so many sex workers come from the very situation those young people are getting themselves into. See: http://occmed.oxfordjournals.org/content/57/5/322.full  The country I currently live in is plagued with sex-slaves (and no, I don’t think I am miss-using the term ‘slave’ as I am referring to someone who is forced to perform services they don’t want to give). As well, many of the surrounding nations have problems with this.

So, think about this: WHY should we accept thousands of kids from other countries, pay for foster care, and give them an education only to see them turn to a life of crime or victimization?

Blogging and the truth

So many times this week, I have read blogs where people attack conservatives with exaggerated or even false claims which have no truth whatsoever. Now, I am trying to keep this blog more or less apolitical, but I know myself. I love politics.

So, here goes my best shot at being political without being super conservative about it! Also, if you don’t like what I have to say at first, skip down to the end because I have valuable things to say about parenting.

So, to keep it apolitical, know this: If you are a conservative who dishes out miss-information to support your position, I LOATHE you. Anytime people give out miss-information, I find it abhorrent.

While I do believe conservatives tell some miss-information, I see and hear many more liberals lying to the American people in order to further their political agenda.

Again, John Boehner is guilty of trying to pursue his personal agenda’s, however, I am looking more at the extremism I see in the liberal politicians. PBO, for instance, has run on being ‘change you can believe in”, but instead became less transparent than any other president in recent history and has accomplished very little in the way of trying to listen to what conservatives have to say.

Same goes for Hillary R. Clinton. She has been working to show how much she understands the poor people. The middle class. She is NOT- nor has she ever- really been in the middle class (at least, according to the information I have read)! People who have worked hard and earned their millions by providing a product or a service are the people who understand the middle class.

How many people earn millions by giving speeches? And how many of those did something great in order to earn the right to give such speeches? And what has Hillary R Clinton done to deserve so much money?

Many other people have blatantly distributed miss-information or lied or even slandered conservatives. Planned Parenthood, Martin Bashir, CNN, ACORN. The list could go on.

For a more concrete example, let’s look at this blog:

http://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2014/07/01/an-obgyns-opinion-on-the-supreme-court-hobby-lobby-and-contraception/

What she said: “The idea that religious beliefs of some are more important that the religious beliefs of others.”

First of all, define for me ‘religious beliefs’. If you are telling me that it is a religion to have an abortion, then Planned Parenthood is in violation of supporting political parties (something churches CAN’T do), schools cannot talk about abortions because that is ‘religion’. To define religious beliefs like that changes the way we MUST look at religion. And rightly so. If you look at Merriam-Webster, they define religion, basically, as whatever you choose to believe as your guiding principles.

Secondly, SCOTUS is NOT saying that one persons beliefs trump another persons beliefs. What they ARE saying is that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will NOT tell people how to worship God. And this is the point of the Constitution. Note, the Constitution does not say that city gov’ts can’t dictate religion. State gov’ts could also dictate a religion. It just says the Federal Gov’t won’t dictate a religion.

Lastly, the decision does not say a woman cannot purchase those things on her own- only that an employer is not required to purchase them for her (or for his wife, as the case may be).

What she said: “Legislating a belief over science.” Actually, I am surprised she says this because it is science which shows us that genetically unique people begin when the male and female gametes (think sperm and egg) join inside her body.

Click here for more information and other links for proof:

http://www.evolutionnews.org/2014/05/in_salon_a_junk085971.html

And the point of Plan B and other abortifacients is that they prevent a potential zygote from attaching itself to the womb. It is not a matter of which chemicals it uses to do the job, it is a matter of what the affect will be.

What she said: “A slippery slope for other contraceptives.

First of all, I would like to point out that many of my liberal friends have disregarded any argument that mentions “slippery slope”. But as far as I am concerned, there is a strong argument supporting the logic of such claims- but only when supported properly.

Actually, this is completely false. The company in particular here (Hobby Lobby) has and still does provide other means of birth prevention- such as the daily birth control pills.
(Now, as far as I am concerned, women shouldn’t take those pills because of the affects they have on their bodies, but I am not going to argue banning them with the little evidence I have read thus far on the subject.)

What she said: “A slippery slope for other medical practices that infringe on religious beliefs.

Actually, this argument is valid. However, let me ask you something. If you like getting free health care, you will look for a job that provides it, right? So the worst case scenario that this case-law will produce is needing to search through and find out what your employer does or does not cover as far as medical reimbursements.

I, for one, would choose to NOT work for a company that doesn’t provide me with the coverage I want.

What she said: “That contraception isn’t really health care.

Again, she makes some very good points. However, I would like to counter that companies such as Hobby Lobby actually pay their employees far more than other companies similar to it, so even if they stopped paying for the 16 forms of birth control they already pay for, their employees should be able to afford the $10 to purchase it on their own.

What she said: “Restricting access to IUDs increases the risk of unplanned pregnancies and thus paradoxically the rate of abortion. ”

Her argument here is that IUD’s don’t cause abortions, but as I pointed out above, it actually does result in pregnancy because you are not allowing a genetically unique life to develop to the point it can exist outside the womb.

Also, I would like to point out that sex is one of the few things that we understand what the logical result should be. We are taught in school that having sex is how women get pregnant. So to say that a pregnancy is unplanned is not really logical. You have sex, pregnancy may result. Condoms break, the pill isn’t completely fail-proof. Many things happen when having sex which may allow for a pregnancy to result.

So she has given misinformation in order to support her argument. I try not to do that (as everything I have said I have either assumed it to be common sense, known by you, easily researched by you or have given you a link to see where I got my information).

She ends her article by restating (basically) that this is all a part of the war on women.

Here is where I start the more neutral ideas:

I find the idea of this being a “war on women” reprehensible. There are many reasons why abortions are actually bad for women.

Abortions can cause depression (from women who have had abortions).

Abortions can cause sterilization (don’t remember my source).

Abortions create the concept of control. If you can control your body, then why should I care about if you’re pregnant or not?

Since abortions and pornography became readily available, we have seen a HUGE spike in single parent homes. This actually INCREASES poverty and low-income households. There is a wealth of information regarding children raised by single moms or dads and the detriment it had upon the lifestyle and wage-earning potential of those children.

Most importantly, we are finding now that the first three years of a child’s life will be the biggest predictor of their future educational levels as well as future income. If a child has a parent who provides pre-early child education, the child will be far more likely to go on to succeed in school and go on to college.

Two links to support what I have said:

http://www.factsforlifeglobal.org/03/1.html

http://www.helpstartshere.org/kids-and-families/early-childhood-development/about-early-childhood-development.html

So basically, we need to end the mentality that single parent households are good and move to having both parents active in the child’s life. But I have started a completely new blog post now so I will end it here!

Loneliness part 2

So in my last post, I talked about being lonely. I tried to make it not about my life, but it was, largely, about my personal experiences. And if you saw me, you would NEVER imagine I struggle with loneliness. You wouldn’t imagine this because I am good looking, I have a good job, friends, a beautiful and intelligent wife and more. I look like someone who people would want to be like. I say this because you might be an attractive person who is lonely.

When you live with and have accepted loneliness as l have, you fail to understand the gravity of this terrible disease.

For me, loneliness resulted in an addiction to movies/ television and a love/hate relationship with pornography. For you, it might be eating too many sugar-filled ‘foods’. Or cutting yourself. Any form of compulsive escapism could be a sign of loneliness. So ask yourself: how often are you PHYSICALLY with other people having fun?

(It even makes me wonder if crazy people were simply so lonely that they turned on themselves to try to comprehend what they saw as incomprehensible… )

Being lonely will also result in not being productive. Case in point: on the 2nd of this month, I was lonely, and I stayed home. I did nothing but watch tv, play games and, sadly, look at porn. It is a day I regret.

On Thursday, I went out for lunch at a restaurant where they know me well (I am an EFL teacher so my schedule is erratic). When I returned home, I did the dishes, the laundry, and organized the new apartment.

Even last night, I needed to be with friends, so I went out and met some guys for dinner. This morning, I have organized more, cleaned the bathroom and have great expectations for the afternoon and evening!

Overall, by being social, I have increased my productivity. (If I remember correctly, this is why France has more productivity with only a 30-hour work week. The people of France enjoy their lunches more and therefore are better able to work harder. But I currently lack any proof of this.)

By being social, we are also able to improve our self image. I can talk with people and know that they accept who I am. In discussing life with people, you begin to understand how your thoughts do or don’t fit in with how everyone else thinks. When you have friends who accept you as you are, you stop thinking about those trivial matters which cause you to see yourself negatively.

Maybe you think too much of yourself and, by talking with others, you realize how smart other people can be (so much so that you understand that, while you are smart, you are not really so much smarter than everyone else)!

So I will end this blog entry the same way I did last time. What will you do to end your loneliness? Will you go to a coffeehouse and meet someone? Will you go to a park and introduce yourself to someone?

Maybe find a church worthy of your time and make friends there.

Oh, and I encourage you to talk man-to-man or woman-to-woman just to prevent anyone from getting the wrong ideas.

And if you are a Christian and your church doesn’t seem to be welcoming, what will you do? Will you strive to change and improve your church culture so newcomers are welcomed and included? I hope so because the church is meant to be a beacon of light to a lost and dying world. Jesus wanted us to not condemn the world (or each other) for the mistakes we make- but to accept each other and help one another to be more like Jesus.
